Week 8, #19 About Zoho

I used Zoho to post the Grand Teton National Park, because our family is going to visit this national park next summer.
I created an account on Zoho. First, I used google to search some Grand Teton's pictures and saved as a file on "my document". Then, I used "Zoho Writer" to type some informations and tried some functions. I used "background color" function to choose the background's color. "Formating function" to choose bold, color, and bulleted. "Insert images" function to download the Grand Teton's picture from my document. At last, I used the "publish" function to post the whole document on my blog. I hope you will like it.

Grand Teton National Park

  • President Harry S. Truman signed the bill to create this 310,000 acres park on September 14th.1950.
  • People have been living at the Teton Range for many years, beginning with the pre-historical American Indian more than 11,000 years ago.
  • The main attractions at the Park are the Teton Range, Jackson Lake, Jenny Lake, and the Snake River.

week 8, #18 Social Networking

I went on 3 different social networking sites. The first one is "My Space". I think this site is good for the people who like to chat. Once you create an account then you can invite your friend to join your personal Network. And your friend's friend will automatically on your network, same as your friend's friend's friend will on you network and so on. You will build a huge your own network, then you can say that is your personal community. I don't like chatting on line. This is not my place.
The second one is Yahoo!360. I use Yahoo! everyday. On this network, you are not only create a linked network of friends, but also can communicate a lots of Yahoo!'s service such as Yahoo! Messenger, Yahoo! Photo, Yahoo! Travel and Yahoo! shopping. It also provides web blogs, you can have your personal blog and share everything with people. I don't need that many services, so I will not take this web.
"My Opera" I will recommend this for the people who don't care much about service but still like to have their own blog. This is a vibrant place to create your own blog. You can share your feeling, experiences, and show your favorite pictures here. I read many people's blogs and saw many very interesting pictures. This is my favorite social networking site.

week 6 #15 Library 2.0

Library 2.0 is an extended service to the customers. They don't need to go to the library to use the service. This includes online service such as use HCPL system to check all information and do the online application. According to the articles I read with Library 2.0, library services are frequently evaluated and updated to meet the changing needs of library user. Library also encourage user participation and feedback in the development and maintaining of library service. Library 2.0 are not just about access to books and information. It is about innovation, about people, and about community.
With the Library 2.0, I think our library's computer lab can offer online classes to the public in the near future. Then the customer all around the country can use computer to register and have the class at home.

week 6, #14 Technorati

I looked at technorati and did the advanced search "learning2.0", and found the results are different. Under keyword search the results are 143, under tags the results are 120, and under blog directory the results are 116. I was just wondering why the blog's result is less than tags? I also viewed the "popular" , the Top favorite blog #1 is Boing Boing (2887 member have made this a favorite). The top blogs #1 is Engadget, on this blog I found some Chinese reactions. It is very interesting.

week 6, #13 del.icio.us

I created an account on del.icio.us. My computer uses firefox, so I installed two new bottom ("post to del.icio.us" & "my del.icio.us") on my computer. Then I save a new web "Chinatimes" to my account with a tag "newspaper". When I looked up my account I can easy link to this web and also find there are 140 people also saved this web with different tag. I did the same thing to save some other interesting webs. This is a easy way to bookmark your interesting web and easy to do research. You just type the tag, like "newspaper" then it will show all the possible web that related with the tag "newspaper".

Week 4, #9 Exercise

I completed the exercise of #9. The key step to complete the task is to bookmark the "Sub with Bloblines" from my Bloblines account (for Firefox users). Once this is done, I can go to any website, then click the "Sub with Bloblines" in the bookmark to see all available feeds. I can then select the feeds I want to subscribe directly.

Week 4, #8 exercise

I created an account on Bloglines, and selected 12 feeds from there. I encountered some problems at first. After I selected 12 feeds, I was unable to subscribe to all of them. I almost gave up after several hours of trial-and-error. Finally, it was Chris Shulik who helped me correct the problem. A big thank to Chris!

The 12 feeds I subscribed include BBC, CNN, USA Today, Astrology Daily Work, Jokes of the Day, and 2 feeds from blogs created by iHCPL staff members.
